7 Great Ways to Store Your Cannabis
Cool & Dry Place
Find a place out of direct sunlight that’s cool and dry. Keep cannabis away from hot electronics, and look for those low cupboards, shelves, or wine cellars.
Static Free Container
Keep your cannabis in containers with a neutral charge, like glass Mason jars. Plastic jars or boxes can hold static electricity which can fry succulent trichomes.
Measure Relative Humidity Levels
Try to use a hygrometer to measure the temperature and humidity levels. Products like Boveda can control humidity levels to protect cannabis, cigars, musical instruments, and more!
Minimize Air Exposure
Vacuum sealed glass jars are ideal. Storing your cannabis with just the right amount of air is critical to keeping it fresh! Protecting against UV rays helps too.
Keep Your Strains Separate
Maintain the individual flavor profiles by keeping your strains apart. Take care to label each container using a sharpie because getting them mixed up totally sucks.
Explore New Options
The cannabis industry is growing more every day! That means new products and technologies are always popping up. So keep looking for new solutions for cannabis storage! We’re impressed with what Cannador and The Bureau are doing.
Lock It Away From Pets and Kids
If you have more than a single ounce (1 oz) of marijuana in your home you must keep it in a locked container. But we recommend storing any amount of cannabis locked away to keep kids and pets safe.
How NOT to Store Your Weed
Marijuana doesn’t belong in the fridge.
Don’t store your pot in the refrigerator. The fluctuations in humidity and temperature can actually increase your chance of mold and mildew. If you do refrigerate, vacuum-seal completely. Cold buds will scavenge water from the air, ruining the flavor. Allow the container enough time to return to room temp before re-opening.
Don’t freeze it!
Freezing temperatures cause the fragile trichomes to become brittle and break off like little icicles when handled. If you do freeze your weed, also make sure to fully vacuum-seal the cannabis keeping it frozen. Again, cold and frozen bud tries to get moisture from the air which ruins the flavor. Like with cooling, allow frozen containers and buds enough time to return to room temperature before re-opening.
Throw out your cheap plastic bags or containers.
Plastic often has a static charge that can attract previous trichomes. If you must use plastic, do it for short-term storage of small quantities of cannabis only… or use premium quality bags like the ones from Smelly Proof.
Heat is bad for cannabis.
Try to store your weed well away from electronics or appliances that give off heat. Since heat rises! Instead, store your cannabis in a low cupboard, shelf, or in the basement of your house… much like a wine cellar ;-)
Stay away from tobacco humidors.
Most humidors use cedar wood which has oils that transfer and can influence the flavors of your cannabis. They also tend to employ sponges that use propylene glycol to regulate humidity which can oversaturate your marijuana.
Don’t keep weed in your grinder.
Try not to store weed in grinders, pipes, or other paraphernalia. The ash and resin from burnt cannabis tends to linger and will stink up any storage container. Also, it’s simply good etiquette to keep your supplies separate and clean.
